The controversy about Stalin – a “basket” of preliminary considerations

When introducing Jimmie Moglia’s video series about Stalin I promised to share with you my own take on this most controversial personality.  Let me immediately say that what I will write below is most definitely not some seminal analysis of the life and personality of Stalin, but rather few more or less disjointed thoughts on a topic which I still feel that I do not understand.

The figure of Stalin has always been a controversial one.  Some thought of him as the “leader of all times and all nations” (“вождь всех времен и народов”) while other saw him like the epitome of evil, a genocidal maniac who killed more people than any other individual in history.  In reality, that kind of polarization is probably a strong indication of the fact that this issue is a very complex one and that a simple black and white answer is unlikely to correctly evaluate the person of Stalin and his legacy.  The fact that there really was a “personality cult” during Stalin’s life and that it was followed by a emotional denunciation by Khrushchev only made things worse.  Stalin is most definitely a polarizing figure and I myself have been submitted to that polarization from my early childhood.

E-passport machines print 16,000 booklets per day

President Robert Mugabe yesterday commissioned a state-of-the-art passport production centre at KGVI, which prints 16,000 booklets daily. This development will eliminate the long queues that over the years characterised the Registrar-General's Office. Long queues and sleeping overnight to obtain a passport has been a daily order at the passport office.

(There is a great online Nigerian Passport Renewal service than can also help you with Payment and send all the necessary documents to you via e-mail for processing at the nearest Nigerian consulate or Embassy. There method of Payment is Paypal or Money transfer. See that service here)

Commissioning the centre, President Mugabe said Zimbabwe remained committed to the adherence to robust standards of travel documents and international security. "We're happy as a country to be among the pioneers of e-passport production," said President Mugabe.

Violent Political Organizations – an opinion

by Gavin Don

An old Chinese curse runs “may you live in interesting times”. These are interesting times. Today’s geopolitical strategists learned their trade in a bi-polar world, in which two clear competing ideologies wrestled for global dominance within a fairly weak framework of international law. Occasionally the wrestling match became violent, but for the most part lethal violence was confined to wars between states – North Korea against South Korea, North Vietnam against South, Egypt against Israel, among others. Occasionally lethal violence between Capitalists and Communists cropped up in civil war within states, with the two camps each supporting a side (think Angola and Afghanistan for significant examples). But in general the Cold War was characterised by the lack of open war fighting, and a pleasingly low level of general violence compared with what might have been.

The EU’s “suicide by reality denial”

This article was written for the Unz Review: http://www.unz.com/tsaker/the-eus-suicide-by-reality-denial/

What had to happen did happen. The EU, being the chain of weak links it is, did eventually give in, and the Dutch people were the first one to vote against the association with the Ukraine. Of course, the Euroburocrats can now find some reason to declare the vote invalid, they can declare that some law was violated, they can even negotiate some minor change the to association agreement, or they might even decide that they can simply ignore this vote. But none of that will make any difference: the undeniable truth is that the Ukrainians are not welcome in the EU, not as associates and even less so as members. So no EU, no NATO no “European future” for the Ukraine. The entire hot air balloon which has been fueling the naïve and ugly hopes of the Euromaidan has burst and the Euro-Ukrainian project is crash and burning like the Hindenburg.

Chaos….Success!

This comment, in response to the post ‘The Daesh Chronicles:…”, was selected by mod-hs. He felt that it provided an alternative view of the current world situation, a view that sees everything going quit well for the US and NATO, with all goals being met. Quite cynical and thought provoking.

The author writes: “It was as if they did not learn from Afghanistan…Iraq…Libya” My question is – learn what? All 3 cases are a resuonding success for the empire. Look at the facts:
Afghanistan – total chaos rules in the heart of Central Asia. Heroin production is better than ever. ISIS is spreading fast and radical Wahhabis are poised to threaten CSTO members, and Russia and China, eventually.

The writing is on the wall for the European Union

The latest bomb attacks in Brussels are the clear proof that the attacks in Paris were not a fluke, but the first in what is likely to be a long string of similar terror attacks. Such attacks are really nothing new, this is exactly what Russia has to endure in the 1990s, from the same people and for the same reasons. But whereas Russia eventually succeeded in defeating both the Chechen Wahabi insurgency and the Chechen Wahabi terrorism, Europe appears to lack all the resources needed to prevail. What is even worse, EU leaders appear to be dead set in their current russophobic policies thereby cutting themselves off the much needed help Russia could offer.

Week Twenty-two of the Russian Military Intervention in Syria: Putin announces new strategy

This article was written for the Unz Review: http://www.unz.com/tsaker/week-twenty-two-of-the-russian-military-intervention-in-syria-putin-announces-a-new-strategy/

These are amazing times indeed. Only two weeks ago I outlined the likelyhood of a dramatic escalation of the war in Syria, and this week Vladimir Putin announced the withdrawal of what I would call the “tactical air strike” component of the Russian task force in Syria. How is that possible? How could the Russian warn about Turkish troops poised to invade Syria and then suddenly pull out a major chunk of their Syrian-based firepower.

The Clock is ticking: Russia’s partial military withdrawal from Syria

That is why I order to start withdrawal of the main part of our military group from the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic starting from tomorrow,” Putin said on Monday during a meeting with Shoigu and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

If we do, we are at risk for developing posttraumatic stress disorder that may never go away. To add a little good news, humor and clean fun to our daily dose of war news, I started posting short entertaining videos of different places and corners of the biggest country in the world, Russia. If you have a moment, please, check them out.

Hillary’s Secret Letter and the Whole Matter of Endless War and the Almost Complete Corruption of America’s Government (UPDATED!)

Foreword by the Saker: to be honest, I have not been following the latest presidential race in the USA.  Simply put, I have long lost any hope to see any change come from any election in the USA.  Changing the puppet makes no difference as long as the puppeteer remains the same one.  Still, I think that there are at least two main puppeteers in the USA: what I call the “Old Anglo” guard and the Neocons.  And while these two agree on a lot, there are some real differences between them.

“Russia’s Foreign Policy: Historical Background”

by Sergei Lavrov

International relations have entered a very difficult period, and Russia once again finds itself at the crossroads of key trends that determine the vector of future global development.

Many different opinions have been expressed in this connection including the fear that we have a distorted view of the international situation and Russia’s international standing. I perceive this as an echo of the eternal dispute between pro-Western liberals and the advocates of Russia’s unique path. There are also those, both in Russia and outside of it, who believe that Russia is doomed to drag behind, trying to catch up with the West and forced to bend to other players’ rules, and hence will be unable to claim its rightful place in international affairs. I’d like to use this opportunity to express some of my views and to back them with examples from history and historical parallels.

How The Russian Air Super Power Changed the Middle East

Since it’s February 23, the Fatherland’s Defender Day, it would be appropriate to analyze the initial impact of Russia’s forces in Syria. First of all, Russian aircraft have been in combat for almost five months and secondly, the Syrian campaign is on the threshold of a pause largely thanks to the Russian forces.

On Sunday, February 21, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry reached a preliminary agreement on a ceasefire in Syria. Commenting on their phone discussions, Kerry said that “the ceasefire is now closer than ever.” The US State Department later disseminated a joint statement which states that Moscow and Washington offered the warring parties in Syria to stop fighting on February 27 at midnight (Damascus time). This ceasefire does not extend to ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, and other organizations designated as terrorist by the UN. The statement emphasizes that Russian and Syrian aircraft will stop attacking Syrian opposition during the ceasefire.
