Nigeria Military Nabs 486 suspected Boko Haram members in Abia



According to a report by Guardian, not less than 486 suspected Boko Haram members including eight women were arrested by the military personnel of the 144 battalion of the Nigerian Army with base at Asa in Ukwa West council of Abia State. Full report below...
Abia State Information Commissioner, Chief Eze Chikamnayo, who took some reporters to the military camp yesterday to see the suspects said they were arrested around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday along Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway at Arongwa area called Imo Gate, which is a boundary between Abia and Rivers states.

New APC 52 yrs Youth Leader favorites Reno Omokri's tweet mocking him



Pictured right is the new APC Youth Leader Dr Dasuki Ibrahim Jalo who's is 52 years. On the left is PDP youth leader Abdullahi Mai Basira who's 31 years old.

So here's what happened. Special Assistant to the president on New Media Reno Omokri tweeted two tweets mocking the APC for selecting a 52 year old as their National Youth Leader but he did it using sarcasm therefore it wasn't so obvious. Then the man himself, Ibrahim Jallo, could not see he was being mocked and favorited the tweets..hehe. But a youth leader at 52? See the tweets when you continue after the break...

Cultists hack driver, dump body on Lagos highway



The battered body of a man was discovered on Olopo Meji, Oworonshoki Expressway in Lagos on Saturday June 14th. The body had been crushed many times by vehicles on the highway. Punch reports that the body was later identified as that of 35year old Yemi, aka Topia, a resident of the area.

A resident of the area, Michael Oladipupo, told Punch that the dead man was the son of a landlord on Mabawonku Street. Oladipupo said Yemi was not killed by a hit-and-run vehicle as the situation suggested, but his body was dumped on the highway to serve as an alibi for his killers. Continue...

*Police firm up preparations, deploy hi-tech security equipment*IGP Warns politicians to play by the Rules


The Inspector-General of Police IGP MD Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni, psc, has ordered immediate deployment of hi-tech security equipment, including surveillance helicopters, armoured personnel carriers, patrol vans and other law enforcement gadgets to Ekiti State in view of the June 21, 2014.

The deployment comes as a reinforcement of other security measures already put in place by the Police, especially the deployment to strategic locations of the personnel of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), the Bomb Disposal Unit, Mounted Troops and the Police Air-wing designed to effectively boost the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring an atmosphere of peace, orderliness, safety and security of persons, votes and all sensitive election materials during the June 21, 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State.

US public lied to about Iraq from the start - detained leaker



The detained US soldier convicted of leaking a trove of secret documents to WikiLeaks made a rare foray into public life Saturday to warn Americans they were being lied to about Iraq once more. Chelsea Manning is serving a 35-year prison sentence on espionage charges and other offenses for passing along 700,000 secret documents, including diplomatic cables and military intelligence files, to anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks in the largest-scale leak in US history.

US deploys aircraft carrier to Persian Gulf in case of military option on Iraq



US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel ordered an aircraft carrier moved into the Persian Gulf on Saturday, readying it in case Washington decides to pursue a military option after insurgents overwhelmed a string of Iraqi cities this week and threatened Baghdad, according to Reuters.

"The order will provide the Commander-in-Chief additional flexibility should military options be required to protect American lives, citizens and interests in Iraq," the Pentagon said in a statement.

Obama to take several days to consider how to act on Iraq



President Barack Obama said on Friday he will take several days to review options for how the United States can help Iraq deal with a militant insurgency, saying any action would need significant involvement by Iraq itself, according to Reuters. "The United States is not simply going involve itself in a military action in the absence of a political plan by the Iraqis that gives us some assurance that they are prepared to work together," Obama said, demonstrating a reluctance to send US troops into battle in Iraq.

"We are not going to be able to do it for them," he added.

Dora Akunyili Set To Be Buried 28th Of August



Former Minister of Information and Communications, Late Dora Akunyili who died on the 7th of June in an Indian Specialist Cancer hospital will be buried on the 28th of August her husband has said.

Mr Akunyili thanked Nigerians who stood by her during her 2-year battle with cancer, and those supporting them now after her demise.
