NDLEA arrests Ghanaian comedian for drug ingestion



A Ghanaian comedian, Musah Iddrisu, and a Congolese, Inana Cedrick, have been arrested the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Iddrisu and Cedrick were arrested during the inward and outward screening of Ethiopian airline passengers respectively at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

Abductors Want ₦ 500m ransom to release President Jonathan's uncle



 Abductors of Inengite Nitabai, the 70-year old uncle of President Goodluck Jonathan, have demanded a N500m ransom, Sahara Reporters report.

A security source said that the abductors threatened to kill him if the family fails to produce the money. The source also said the family had constituted a committee to evaluate the demand, establish negotiations with the abductors and facilitate his release.

He said the kidnappers had also warned against the involvement of security operatives in the matter.  
"The kidnappers contacted the family four days after and demanded a whopping sum of N500m. It is believed that the family of the victim has begun negotiations with the hoodlums," he said.

Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako Attacked by Boko Haram





In accordance with information reaching us, the convoy of the governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako was attacked by gunmen considered to be Boko Haram insurgents earlier today, The Herald reports.  Nyako was ambushed at Shuwari part of the State on his way returning from the condolence visit to victims who were attacked by the Boko Haram set two days ago. In line with the source, the governor and his convoy escaped the attack unhurt.

According to Ghetto radio, a church called ‘Lord's Propeller Redemption Church'has declared wearing pan-ties to Church as ‘ungodly '. 
“All the ladies were informed not to be wearing bras and panties to the church,” a source revealed. The Church's pastor Rev Njohi says that when people head to church, they need to be free in body and spirit in order to receive Christ. He also allegedly warned the congregation of dire consequences for failure to uphold the new law. I wonder how they are going to ensure the congregation follows this new law.

Nigeria Football Federation unveils New World Cup jersey for Brazil 2014



 The Nigerian Football Federation today February 27th unveiled a fresh jersey our national team would use throughout the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. How we spent Abacha’s loot — Okonjo-Iweala



Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister for the Economy and , Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala , said yesterday that the $ 500 million recovered Abacha loot was used to develop the nation’s rural areas.
The minister was reacting to an article by Mr.  Sonala Olumhense who claimed that $2.5 billion was recovered from the funds looted by the then maximum ruler, Gen. Sani Abacha but that the money disappeared under the minister’s watch.

According to the minister, $ 500 million, not $2.5 billion was recovered and had been spent development projects in rural areas as agreed with the Swiss government.
A statement by Mr. Paul Nwabikwu, Special Adviser to the minister said that the claims by Mr. Olumhense were unverified and largely false.

Special Assistant to the President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokiri, is presently caught up in a massive scandal after the digital footprint of a slanderous write-up against the recently suspended governor of the Central Bank, Sanusi Lamido, was traced to his computer, according to an online media outfit, Premiun Times.
Omokri is believed to have used a pseudonym, Wendell Simlin, to circulate an article that tried to link the recent spike in Boko Haram attack to the suspension of the CBN governor, Lamido Sanusi.

Gunmen Kill 2, Raze Over 120 Houses in Plateau State



An eye witness said the attackers came into Diyam-Rim at about 2 am, raided the village for about one hour, killing the 2 persons and injuring two others.

Gunmen, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, have again struck on the Plateau, leaving at least two dead and over 120 houses burnt at Diyam-Rim of Riyom local government area, and Rakok and Razat both of Barkin Ladi local government part of the state.

Girl hacked to death by former-boyfriend on her way to school

A 16-year old girl was hacked to death by her ex-boyfriend with a machete on her way to school in Kenya.
In accordance with reports, the victim, an form three student at Bishop Okoth Miranga Secondary School was ambushed by the suspect at about 6 a.m.
It was gathered from witnesses a quarrel had ensued between suspect and the deceased over a love affair turned sour.

A disagreement between both families was what caused the parents to say No to their marriage. Suspension: Court refuses Sanusi’s ex parte motion.



Hope of early return to office by the suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, was dashed on Wednesday when an Abuja Federal High Court refused an ex parte motion he filed in a bid to set aside his suspension by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The court instead ordered that the President should be put on notice, and fixed March 12 for both sides to argue the motion.

Senate orders army to the North after Yobe school massacre



With 59 school children dead in Yobe State, the Senate Defence Committee has ordered the Nigerian Army to the North East today to provide protection. (A survivor pictured above)

The Senate Defence Committee, chaired by Senator George Thompson Sekibo suspended budget hearings to pass a resolution which ordered the Nigerian Army to the North East.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah was ordered to provide security for all schools and health institutions in the Boko Haram affected areas to include Maiduguri and Yobe.

Woolwich killers Adebolajo & Adebowale get life in prison



 The 2 men who attacked a soldier, Lee Rigby, in May 2013 and hacked him to death in the streets in front of horrified onlookers near Woolwich Barracks in south-east London, have been sentenced life in prison. Michael Adebolajo, 29, was presented with a whole-life term, while Michael Adebowale, 22, was jailed forever with a minimum of 45 years.

Daily Mail reports that the British-born men began shouting 'Allahu Akbar'and'You (Britain) and America will never be safe'in their sentencing at the court in Central London today. They certainly were bundled from the courtroom by several security guards following their violent outburst and the judge was forced to sentence them inside their absence.......

Nigerian man who stabbed his partner while she was in bed bags 12 years



A Nigerian businessman has been jailed for 12 years after he was found guilty of stabbing his wife as she slept in their home. Oluwabusayo Abegunde, 38, (pictured above) stabbed his wife repeatedly with a kitchen knife after he went through her phone and discovered she was seeing someone else.

Esther Abegunde, 33, told her husband of ten years that their marriage was over and moved into a spare room on February 16th 2013. Abegunde attacked her with the knife after he discovered why she wanted to leave him. Oluwabusayo stabbed Esther in the chest, arm, and punctured her left lung, according to the Manchester Evening News. Continue...

Federal government increases passport charge by 50%



The Federal Government has increased passport fee by 50%. Based on a circular signed by the Deputy Comptroller responsible for Operations/Passport and released a few days ago titled'Passport Reforms ', applicants will now pay N15,000 rather than N10,000. (It was officially N10,000 but most of us understand how much we really paid.) Also applicants for change of data will pay now N30,000.

A statement from the Ondo State Government, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Aderotimi Adelola, said the former Speaker died after a protracted battle with cancer of the urinary bladder.
Ajayi represented Odigbo Constituency 11 at the Ondo State House of Assembly and was 61 years old.
The statement read, “The late Speaker, during his life time was a bridge builder, a man of integrity and a reliable team player who placed the interest of the state above personal consideration.

Venezuela death toll rises to 13 as protests flare, US diplomats expelled, Pope appeals for reconciliation



Anti-government protesters in the Venezuelan capital burn rubbish and put up barricades. Access to the main avenues has been barred and traffic has slowed to a crawl. These blockades are the latest in a series of opposition protests in which 13 people have died. Demonstrators say they'll continue with their protests, until President Nicolas Maduro resigns.

Opposition leader Henrique Capriles is also demanding the government release protest leader Leopoldo Lopez and about a dozen student demonstrators, imprisoned on charges of inciting violence. He spurned an invitation to meet the president for talks.

Saudi Arabia to provide weapons from Pakistan to Syrian Rebels



Saudi source has announced on Sunday that Saudi Arabia is in the middle of negotiations with Pakistan regarding the purchase of anti-aircraft and anti-tank rockets in order to support Syrian rebels. For Saudi Arabia it is a way of helping Syria to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad. 

Initially the US position on proving arms to the rebels was negative due to the fear of those weapons easily falling into the hands of extremists. However, due to the failure of Geneva peace talks, it seems that Washington is ready to reconsider their position.

3 Nigerian students Get death sentence for drug trafficking in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.





KUALA LUMPUR: Three Nigerian college students were sentenced to death by a High Court here for trafficking 1008.3gm of methamphetamine two years ago.

Justice Kamardin Hashim made the decision after the defence failed to raise doubt against Chigozie Patrick Umeohudo, 26, Nnaemeka Nwafor, 25, and Chibuike Collions Nnebedum, 24, by end of defence case.

Dangote Slashes The price of Cement At Kaduna Fair



Dangote Cement has slashed cement price in an ongoing promo at the Kaduna 35th International Trade Fair.  Customers have the opportunity of buying the discounted product at the company’s pavilion, the company’s regional sales manager, Obasola Alo, said.
The new promo liberalises the extant policy where customers who intend to buy directly at factory price could only do so if they were buying trucks of cement.
“Two or more people can come together to buy 100 bags. We are partnering with Access Bank whose representatives are at the fair where customers can pay and get their product,” he said.

The two parties involved in the alleged invasion of the Labour Party secretariat have been invited by the Ogun State Police Command and the onus rests on the Command to carry out its investigations and established the facts therein.

SLS drags GEJ to court over suspension



The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, has dragged President Goodluck Jonathan before an Abuja Federal High Court in a suit he filed to challenge his suspension from office.
In the application filed on his behalf by his lawyer, Kola Awodein, SAN, Sanusi is asking the court to restrain the President, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police from giving effect to his purported suspension from office as the CBN governor, pending the determination of the suit.

Report predicts naira devaluation on Sanusi’s suspension



The naira is at risk of being devalued after President Goodluck Jonathan suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, last week, eroding confidence in monetary policy and sending the naira to a record low.
Bloomberg reported that the naira, which rose for the first time in six days on Monday, posted its biggest five-day drop in eight months last week.

The yield on Nigeria’s July 2023 dollar bond had its steepest one-day jump on record after Sanusi’s removal on February 20. The security has lost 2.3 per cent this year, compared with a 0.6 per cent drop in the JPMorgan Chase & Co. index of African sovereign debt.

Police Rescues Two ESUT Students From Kidnappers Den, Nabs One Suspect




The police in Enugu State, on Tuesday freed two students of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, from kidnappers’ den.

The students, Alexander Afamefuna Akadieze of Amankwo Oghe, a third year student of department of political science and Miracle Chukwuemeka, a second year student of department of sociology, regained their freedom after one week.

LASRAB Undertakes Badagry Records Survey



Lagos State Records & Archives Bureau (LASRAB) has carried out records survey and accessioning of Badagry Local Government to determine historical records of enduring value for preservation and use of future generations.

The survey was undertaken by Archivists of the Bureau led by Mr. Bolaji Uthman, the Director General - LASRAB. Over the weekend, a 24-year-old lady, Tivere, was molested by a security guard – Kelly Ochuko- on Mutiatu Street, Ikotun, Lagos State, while returning from a vigil at the Synagogue Church of All Nation.

The incident happened around 2am.

Police source say Tivere had travelled to Lagos from Sapele, Delta State, to participate in Pastor Temitope Joshua’s midnight programme. Around 2am, she had left for her lodge when a 27-year-old Ochukwo allegedly accosted her.

Boko Haram Hit men attack 2 villages in Borno , Govt seals border with cameroon



Boko Haram members yesterday Sunday Feb. 23rd attacked two villages, Mairari village of Konduga LGA and Izge village in Gwoza LGA in Borno state killing many people.

This is the second time the sect men are attacking Izge village. They had attacked the village on the 16th of February killing 63 people.  In this recent attack, the men came at about 2am, chanting war songs while they killed elderly people in the village and burnt down most of the standing buildings in the village. Most of the men, women and youths fled the village immediately they heard the sect men coming.
