World scrabble Chairman lauds Nigeria on Akpabio Classics -




Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classics has been adjudged as the best Scrabble competition in the world, so says the Chairman of the World English Language Scrabble Players Association ( WESPA ) Mr Elie Dangoor.

In a Goodwill message addressed to the President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation Chief Toke Aka and sent to the organizers of the Classics which enters its 7th year this Wednesday   in Uyo, Mr Elie Dangoor described the Classics as “prestigious”

Some people alleged that you didn’t get the PPRO job on merit, but through closeness to some men at the top hierarchy in the force. Is this true?
You know the irony is when people gossip about you, you are usually the last to hear it. The gossip must have gone round but I never heard about it. I can tell that I got to this position through hard work. I wasn’t just handpicked. There was an interview and I emerged the best. If people are saying that, it’s their problem.

Tukur, Amaechi lock horns again



The crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party got messier on Friday with the ruling party asking the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, to write a formal letter to the Dr. Bamanga Tukur-led National Executive Council for his suspension to be lifted.
Amaechi, who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH, over the weekend has, however, vowed that he would not write the letter.

Nigerian Police bar youths from checking Amaechi's projects



Scores of youths attending an event organised by the Rotary Club with the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, were on Friday barred by policemen from inspecting some state projects in Port Harcourt.
The youths, who were about 600 in number, were said to be waiting for Government House buses to convey them from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology to some of the project sites before armed policemen stormed the place and stopped them from embarking on the planned inspection.
The students were from 11 states of the federation.

Amaechi blames PH airport neglect on rift with Jonathan



Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday accused the Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Oduah, of abandoning the remodelling of the Port Harcourt International Airport because of his rift with President Goodluck Jonathan.
Amaechi, who said this in an interview withChannels Television, monitored by one of our correspondents, said apart from leaving the airport in deplorable state, the minister  impounded the aircrafts belonging to the state “for no reason.”

Wife nearly Killed Her Husband With Dagger Over Girlfriend




Marriage is a respected institution that men and women should look forward to but when a woman chases her husband with a digger and another woman decides to have extra marital affairs, then there are questions that should be answered.

This was the case in the family of Mr and Mrs Ogodi of Ado town in the Karu area of Nasarawa State. The couple had been having some rough patches in recent times just as most families are prone to but the wife, Chidinma, probably never thought that the argument [over infidelity] would end up with her spending several night in police custody.

Man arrested after catching wife red handed in bed with police officer




A distressed husband landed in jail after he found his wife in bed with another man, who turned out to be a police officer.

Peter Takavingofa, 25, was arrested after he allegedly bit the man, whom he caught sleeping in his bed with his wife.

Police officer Denhere Malvern, who is a member of the Chinamora police department in Zimbabwe, claimed the husband bit him during an altercation.

Hoodlums visit Kenyan shopping mall, at least 22 people killed



 Gunmen stormed a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya this afternoon Saturday September 21 killing at least 22 people in what could possibly be a terrorist attack. An eyewitness claimed the gunmen told Muslims to stand up and leave the mall and that only non-Muslims would be targeted. By the time they finished shooting indiscriminately, at least 22 were dead and at least 50 people injured.

One survivor said and that the attackers started from the Westage mall ground floor and made their way to the top. He said they had grenades and AK-47 rifles and he saw at least five of them. Local TV stations reported that the gunmen took hostages as soldiers and local policemen surrounded the mall. Another survivor said he was shot at by a man who looked like a Somali.
