Africa: Tax Havens - An Emerging Challenge to Africa's Development Financing

Africa: Tax Havens - An Emerging Challenge to Africa's Development Financing
The term 'tax haven' is a bit of a misnomer because they are not just about tax, but about a whole range of other things too. There is no generally agreed definition of what a tax haven is, but if you drill right down to the core of what these places offer, you end with two words: 'escape,' and 'elsewhere.' Once we understand what this means, it becomes clear why they are such a threat to Africa.

Christian Association Of Nigeria Hits Back At Kukah, Bakare On Private Jet Controversy

Christian Association Of Nigeria Hits Back At Kukah, Bakare On Private Jet Controversy
Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has condemned comments credited to the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah and Pastor Tunde Bakare, who claimed that acquisition of private jets by religious leaders diminishes moral voices of the church in the war against corruption and are therefore calling for a revolution in the Church of God.

Speaking in a telephone interview, National Director of Research, Planning and Strategy, Elder Sunday Oibe, urged the Catholic bishop and the former vice presidential candidate of CPC, that if they have anything against the person of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, they should come out and say so, and not hide under the cloak of the gift of a jet to attack the CAN president. Oibe, who doubles as the Public Relations Officer of Northern CAN, said he who lives in a glass house should not throw stones.

Hot Bride On Her Wedding Day

Hot Bride On Her Wedding Day

From the way the bride grabbed the guy in her front, it seems that's her 'real' man while the guy messing up with her backside is some kind of sex mate or something in that configuration.

Whatever the case may be; even if this guy playing dirty with the bride is her husband (which is unlikely as no decent man will do this to his wife in public), one wonders the motive for their marriage.

This lady really need to watch her back as it appears she seen more as a sex object rather than a wife to be loved and respected by this ass-grabbing guy.... A word is enough for the wife!

Prophet TB Joshua Sponsors Nigerian Student To Oxford University

Prophet TB Joshua Sponsors Nigerian Student To Oxford University

Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua, well known for his expansive philanthropic endeavours, shocked congregants at his church, The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) on Sunday 18th November 2012 when it was revealed he has sponsored a Nigerian student to study a PhD in the University of Oxford to the tune of £100,000, approximately N26 million.

Miss Yinka Oduwole, who introduced herself as one of the youth who was brought up in The SCOAN and worked there extensively, testified how she had gained admission to study a PhD in Engineering Science in Oxford University, UK after a successful Master’s Programme in University College London (UCL). Yinka, who was equally sponsored in her Master’s Degree in Broadband Communication in UCL in which she came out with a distinction, said Prophet T.B. Joshua and Emmanuel TV Partners had paid the sum of £100,000 to enable her to study for a PhD in the prestigious Oxford University.

“My advice to youth all over the world is that they should pray as if everything depends on God and work as if everything depends on them,” Yinka, also a First-Class graduate from the University of Lagos, told the congregation and viewers worldwide on Emmanuel TV, equally counselling the youth to find a job in the church and actively engage in godly activities.

TB Joshua also revealed in the service how footballer Ogenyi Onazi, the SS Lazio starlet who was recently promoted to the Super Eagles of Nigeria and scored on his debut against Venezuela, was brought up in the church and worked there as well before attaining his current sporting success. Joshua revealed how he had sponsored Onazi and his colleague Sani Emmanuel to trial in clubs around the world including Premier League giants Chelsea and Tottenham, before arriving in SS Lazio, where he is currently playing for the senior team. Joshua revealed that close to $1m was spent in this process, to ensure the duo went to the right club to reach the heights of their potential.

According to Joshua, the reward for raising up such young people to become leaders of tomorrow in every field of expertise is immeasurable in monetary or material terms. “What you make happens for others, God makes happen for you. You are raised to raise others,” Joshua exhorted the crowd, counselling them to consider the future of their own children and what they were doing with their lives.

Forbes estimated that Joshua has spent up to $20m in charitable activities alone in the last three years. Thousands of less privileged students are currently studying in universities across Nigeria and around the world courtesy of SCOAN’s scholarship program.

Botswana Sends 300 Nigerians Backhome

In a most shameful development, no fewer than 300 Nigerians living in the Republic of Botswana have been reportedly deported in the past few months, after the authorities refused to renew their permits. Of course, Botswana is one of the most peaceful countries on the continent and the country also ranks 132 on Transparency International’s (TI) 2011 Corruption Perception Index, making it one of the most corruption-free countries on the continent as well. Meanwhile, the angry deportees want President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Assembly to quickly look into the relations between Botswana and Nigeria in order to ascertain the true conditions of Nigerians living in that country.

The returnees, most of whom had lived and worked in the Southern African country, said since the assumption of the current president, General Khama, whose mother was of British origin, Nigerians in that country had been subjected to dehumanising conditions and racial abuse, even when, they claimed, they had been law-abiding and of good behavior. They believe that that the target of the Khama government had been how to get rid of innocent Nigerians pursuing a just course or doing genuine businesses in the country, claiming that all their efforts to make the Bostwana authorities understand that they were peace-loving and not interested in criminal activities fell on deaf ears as they were only interested in sending them out without any reason.
